Teusner Avatar Grenache Mataro Shiraz 2016 - Wine

Tasting Notes

One of Kym Teusner's most famous blends. Briary, earthy flavours from the Grenache are integrated seamlessly with the autumn fruit notes from the Shiraz and Mataro. Finely grained tannins carry the flavours along perfectly into a long and rewarding finish.

Production Notes

All the parcels were fermented separately and during this vinification process the temperature of each of the ferments differed. Mataro and Grenache were allowed to get a bit warmer during the fermentation, to reduce the risk of confected notes. This also helped to preserve the savoury characteristics of the Grenache. 30% of the Shiraz saw new oak for a period of 12 months. The parcels were blended just prior to bottling.

Critics Reviews

James Suckling 90pts (2016) - A ripe array of red plums, raspberries and blueberries are delivered in smooth, plum-cake mode on the palate. Ripe and soft. Drink now.

Producer Profile

Established by Kym Teusner and Michael Page in 2001, Teusner’s philosophy is to produce only exceptional, affordable wines by being very selective about the fruit, which is sourced from old, well maintained vineyards in Barossa. These vineyards reliably produce balanced, complex fruit which are guided, with minimal input, into stunning wines. Kym decided to make the Righteous Shiraz because he wanted to showcase his own expression of what he considers the ultimate Barossa Valley Shiraz style...intense, powerful and long-lived.
