Stags Leap Wine Cellars Artemis Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 - Half - Wine

Tasting Notes

Artemis is a voluptuous Cabernet Sauvignon blend made by world famous Stag's Leap Wine Cellars and named after a Greek goddess associated with the protection of wild animals, especially the sacred Stag. The wine itself offers inviting aromas of black cherry and plum with hints of vanilla, followed by a smooth, creamy palate of satin tannins and flavours of ripe mixed berries and blackcurrant. A touch of Merlot and a splash of Malbec add a deep complexity, as does 18 months resting in oak barrels.

Production Notes

Imagine taking an aerial tour of Napa Valley, flying over the patchwork of vineyards that have made the valley and its wines famous. The grapes for Artemis are sourced from a unique collection of these sites. Derived from a spectrum of fruit grown for Stags Leap Wine Cellars by independent growers from across the Napa Valley including: Atlas Peak District; Arcadia Vineyard in Coombsville; Battuello Vineyard in St. Helena; Shooting Star in Pope Valley; and Estate fruit. Each site lends its personality to the aroma, flavor, structure and texture of the finished wine. While Stags Leap Wine Cellars Estate Cabernet Sauvignons showcase the distinctive characteristics of each vineyard, Artemis demonstrates how astute grape selection and skilful blending can create a wine that represents the sum of Napa Valleys best Cabernet Sauvignon parts. A small amount of Merlot (9%) and Malbec (2%) were blended with the Cabernet Sauvignon for another layer of complexity and the wine was aged for 18 months in a combination of new and used French and American oak.

Producer Profile

Considered one of Napa Valley's first-growths, Stags Leap Wine Cellars produces renowned Cabernet Sauvignons from its historic Stags Leap District estate vineyards. Founded in 1970, the winery brought international recognition to California winemaking and the Napa Valley when the 1973 S.L.V. Cabernet Sauvignon won the now famous 1976 Paris Tasting, also known as the Judgment of Paris. Stag's Leap Wine Cellars three estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignons CASK 23, S.L.V. and FAY are among the most highly regarded and sought after Cabernet Sauvignons worldwide. The wines are fashioned to express richness balanced by elegant restraint, an approach we refer to as an iron fist in a velvet glove. The winery is also recognized for its Napa Valley collection of wines including ARTEMIS Cabernet Sauvignon and KARIA Chardonnay. These wines provide a strong link to the origin, style, and character of the limited-production estate wines, but they are produced in quantities that make them more accessible.
