Lingua Franca Avni Chardonnay Willamette Valley 2016 - Wine

Tasting Notes

The aroma is complex with layers of lemongrass, honeycomb, citrus, and spice. On the palate, the wine is silky, round and supple, with a long finish. The wine has an open texture and deeper flavor, reflecting the even growing conditions throughout the season. The finish is long and mouthwatering.

Production Notes

The grapes were picked to maximize freshness and tension in the finished wine. Whole cluster pressed, settled in tank for 24 hours on average, barrel fermented in a combination of 27% new, 600 liter puncheons and 73% old French oak barriques from diverse coopers and left to age for 11 months. Full malolactic fermentation completed in each vessel and then the wines were put back in tank with their lees for five months prior to bottling. The acidity is natural.

Producer Profile

Lingua Franca is a new project in Oregon unifying several different familiar names in the world of wine. The first vintage from Larry Stone was in 2015, a famous San Francisco Master Sommelier and veteran of several different wine projects in California and Oregon. Teaming up with Larry is consulting winemaker Dominque Lafon, the legendary Burgundy winemaker, along with the inquisitive mind of Thomas Savre, a brilliant young winemaker with work experience at some of the best domaines in Burgundy. Under a name that resonates an ideology of bringing people of different worlds to common ground, the team at Lingua Franca proudly avoid conforming to a predetermined style of wine, and instead allow the flavours and aromas of the place to express themselves in each bottling. The Lingua Franca Estate vineyard and winery are based in the Eola-Amity Hills AVA, on Jory and Nekia-rich soils. The wines express the brightness and freshness afforded here by marine breezes, so important to this AVA. They have received great praise from both the press and wine intelligentsia. Truly superb expressions of Chardonnay & Pinot that speak of their terroir.
