Ken Forrester The FMC Chenin 2018 - Wine

Tasting Notes

The pinnacle of what we consider to be the finest expression of the grapes of this varietal an icon chenin, a challenge to the world! Rich, layered with dried apricot, vanilla and honey. Will gain additional complexity with cellaring.

Production Notes

Hand selected Chenin Blanc primarily from low yielding, old bush vines (planted in 1974). Harvested at full maturity. Natural wild yeast fermentation in new French oak 400 L barrels. Due to repetitive harvesting some botrytis is always present. Maturation on the lees total of 12 months in the barrel.

Producer Profile

Ken Forrester is one of South Africa's leading winemakers. He worked in restaurants and hotels for several years before acquiring the historic Zandberg vineyard in the heart of Stellenbosch. With most of this vineyard planted with Chenin Blanc, it was decided to enlist the help of good friend and top winemaker, Martin Meinert, with the challenge to produce Chenin Blanc that could rival any white wine in the world. Drawing on the examples of top Loire whites, he has used his uniquely placed Chenin vines to maximum effect and has single-handedly led a Chenin Blanc quality revolution. As a result these wines have achieved iconic status worldwide. Moreover his philosophy has always been centred on the dining table, creating wines that suitably compliment a wide variety of food styles and astute palates.
