So much to explore, so little time. We hope our six day tour of France will embolden you to explore further. We start our tour with a quintessential Chablis from Pascal & Didier Picq, chock full of flinty seashell essence with notes of lemon rind, oystershell, wheat toast and green apple. For night 2 we make a short journey to Domaines Schlumberger in Alsace where we taste their ripe and opulent Gewurztraminer Les Princes Abbes bursting with a plethora of expressive notes such as grapefruit, passion fruit, papaya, spices and ginger which follow to the palate. Then we are off to Pascal Jolivet, one of the most dynamic domaines in the Lore Valley to try their Attitude Sauvignon Blanc, a tangy and delicious sauvignon showing lots of Loire intensity with sliced green mangoes, a lemon character and just a hint of dried peaches and grass.
We spend night 4 at rising star winemaker David Moreau's Santenay estate, tasting his Maranges Rouge, made from the estate's oldest 1940s vines whose crunchy red-berry fruit mingles with chalky tannins to produce a very drinkable wine. For the 5th night we head south to the Rhone Valley and the terroir of Vinsobres, a beautiful village located 40 kilometres north of Châteauneuf du Pape at an altitude of 300 metres. Vinsobres is particularly suitable for Syrah and Vinsobres Les Cornuds from the Perrin family boasts fresh red and blue fruits, white pepper and succulent flowers on the nose and a plush, broad palate, offering sappy boysenberry and floral pastille flavors and a touch of allspice. Finally we finish our tour at Chateau Goubau, a new project in the Cotes de Castillon from master Le Pin winemaker Jacques Thienpoint. This 95% Merlot features ripe fruit on the nose leading to a plummy, spicy well balanced palate with well-integrated oak and a lively finish.
