Biblia Chora Sauvignon Blanc Assyrtiko Estate White 2018 - Wine

Tasting Notes

The marriage of the cosmopolitan and fragrant Sauvignon Blanc with the Greek Assyrtiko produces a wine with a powerful aroma redolent of exotic fruit, peach and citrus. Rich, cool and beautifully balanced.

Production Notes

The Sauvignon Blanc and Assyrtiko (pronounced Ah-SEER-tee-koe) grapes were carefully selected at optimum maturity levels. Each variety was cool macerated for several hours to extract flavour and aromatics. Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks, to preserve the freshness and the aromatic varietal characteristics, prior to blending. This wine was vinified without fining or filtration.

Critics Reviews

JancisRobinson.com 16.5pts (2016) - Smoky and with an attractive hint of reduction. Rich lemon and grapefruit on the palate, the Sauvignon Blanc nicely toned down by the more precise citrus of the Assyrtiko, though it still shows some green-fruited and herbal character from the Sauvignon. Deep and long and full of fruit. (JH)

Producer Profile

Ktima Biblia Chora is the innovative creation of Vassilis Tsaktsarlis and Vangelis Gerovassiliou two of the most talented winemakers in Greece. The winery was established in 1998 and the privately owned vineyard lies on the cool climate slopes of Mount Pangeon, at Kokkinochori near Kavala. It has been farmed organically since day one. These exceptional, cutting edge wines are some of the best white wines in Greece, which have similarities to very good white Bordeaux – not surprising as Vassilis Tsaktsarlis studied with Denis Dubourdieu; the king of modern white Graves.
