Alpha Estate Malagouzia Single Vineyard Turtles 2018 - Wine

Tasting Notes

A strong and lively nose of grapefruit, nectarine and hints of almond blossom. This richly textured wine is very flavoursome, has superb length, balance and plenty of finesse. Bright and long on the finish.

Production Notes

The grapes were destemmed, lightly crushed and then cold soaked with skin contact under controlled conditions. The must was fermented in stainless steel tanks and was then maintained on its fine lees or "sur lie" for two months with regular stirring, imparting a creamy texture and added complexity to the final wine.

Critics Reviews 16.5pts (2018) - Fragrant with spiced pear and peach and a touch of white blossom. The skin contact has given a gentle grip that adds to the existing freshness, which is not always a given in this variety. Not particularly intense but a true-to-type example of this variety and has surprising persistence with a hint of that same spiced pear on the finish. I like the little sour note on the end that also adds to the freshness. (JH)
