Recanati Winery was established in 2000 by Lenny Recanati and Uri Shaked with the aim of creating original, quality Israeli wine. The winery's philosophy is to produce that will best express the local terroir.
Winemakers Gil Shatsberg and Kobi Arviv lead the winemaking process. Shatsberg, a UC Davis graduate, acquired vast experience through his work in some of California's leading vineyards – including the Trefethen Vineyards in Napa and Jordan Winery in Sonoma – as well as in top Israeli wineries, including the founding of the Amphora Winery. Arviv began his career in the winery in 2006, where he gradually learned the wine world by himself. He was appointed winemaker in 2011. A talented and original winemaker, Arviv believes in matching Mediterranean varieties to the Israeli climate.
The winery is very particular about growing both unique Mediterranean varieties (such as Carignan) and local varieties (such as Marawi and Bittuni), while simultaneously nurturing classic international varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The team capitalises on having vineyards planted in the best growing areas in the country, where the high altitude and resultant diurnal temperature range in the vineyards are conditions in which these varieties thrive. The winery is proud of its unprecedented achievements in recent years, both locally and internationally. However, they remain ambitious, cultivating new vineyards and conducting agricultural research in their drive to improve and give maximum expression to the wonderful Israeli terroir at their disposal.
