The wines of Marchesi de’ Frescobaldi come from 700 years of passion, experience, ability and love for a select territory which has become the ideal cradle for the highest quality wines. From the Chianti region to that of Pomino DOC, from Montalcino to Maremma one finds the estates and splendid vineyards of Frescobaldi, where the perfect understanding of the environment and uniqueness of terroir brings a guarantee of constant quality and wines of distinctive personality. Each estate has an independent production with its own dedicated personnel and agronomists.
Castello Pomino is the hidden gem of Toscana. Pomino DOC is the highest appellation in Tuscany, with intense sunshine and wide temperature ranges and only one other producer makes wine from this tiny appellation. The wine-making story began in Pomino in the 16th century, but it was in the mid 1800s that Leonia degli Albizzi, wife of Angiolo Frescobaldi brought about significant innovation. Born in Burgundy, she boldly cultivated Chardonnay and Pinot Nero at this high altitude and built the first gravity-fed winery. The vines thrived and the elegant Pomino wines were produced to wide acclaim, first receiving the gold medal at the Paris Expo of 1878. These stylish wines still have a wonderful luminosity, minerality and finesse to this day.
The wines of Tenuta Ammiraglia represent the Frescobaldi’s expression of modern Tuscan wines: influenced and inspired by the Mediterranean sun, sea and coastal breezes. The modern Ammiraglia winery, designed by the architect Piero Sartogo, is reminiscent of the prow of a ship pointing towards the sea. Perfectly integrated amid the hills and covered with greenery, it combines the most recent technological innovations with respect for the land and surrounding nature. The wines of Tenuta Ammiraglia are distinguished by the freshness, minerality and richness of the fruit.
Tenuta di Castiglioni was the first estate cultivated by the Frescobaldi family, which has produced over 700 vintages. The family’s passion for wine in this area started in Castiglioni, along the road of the same name, which the ancient Romans built to link Rome to Tuscany. On the gentle hills of Val di Pesa, southwest of Florence, the combination of the terroir, the mild climate and the characteristic afternoon sea breezes from the Tyrrhenian Sea is expressed in the Tenuta di Castiglioni wines which are structured, generous and show a rich, purity of fruit.
Tenuta Perano is an immaculate estate located in Gaiole, in the heart of the Chianti Classico region and is the latest addition to the collection of estates owned by the Frescobaldi family. It covers 250 hectares, of which 52 are planted with vines. The vineyard is planted on steep slopes and is situated on a natural amphitheatre profile, which captures and amplifies the sunlight onto the vines. This unique setting combines elevation, exposure and a natural topography to produce wines with intensely fruit driven aromas and a great tannic structure, which are enveloped in elegance.
Tradition, innate elegance and the essence of the Renaissance: Tuscany exudes an aura of timelessness that has inspired generations of the Frescobaldi family and is now an integral part of their vineyards. The Nipozzano Estate is located in one of the traditional areas of Chianti: Chianti Rufina, which is the smallest and most elevated Chianti sub-appellation. The 11th century castle is located in the heart of the prestigious Chianti Rufina, which holds the family cellar including wines dating back to 1864. The uniqueness of the Nipozzano terroir continues to produce wines with a wide range of aromas and extraordinary longevity.
CastelGiocondo epitomises the spirit of Montalcino. It is considered to be one of the most historical estates of Montalcino, as it was one of the first producers of Brunello di Montalcino during the 1800s. The vines are overlooked by the castle and the small medieval town of Montalcino. The combination of the unique location of the vineyard, which is situated at 300 to 400 metres altitude; the south western orientation, which benefits from the warming afternoon sun; and the free draining marl soil culminates to produce this top quality Sangiovese. The CastelGiocondo wines are distinguished by their opulence, power and extraordinary longevity.
